The Kalash people of Chitral are one of the most fascinating and endangered cultures on earth. With a population of only ~4,000, the Kalash are pre-Islamic animists who have maintained their unique traditions, festivals, colorful costumes, and ancient way of life for thousands of years.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Islamabad → Peshawar
Overnight Peshawar.
Day 2 — Peshawar → Dir → Chitral
Drive via Lowari Tunnel.
Day 3 — Chitral City
Chitral Fort, museum, bazaar.
Day 4 — Bumburet Valley
Village walk, Kalash families, cemetery and shrine.
Day 5 — Rumbur Valley
More traditional, fewer tourists. Kalash religious shrines (Jeshtak).
Day 6 — Birir Valley
The most isolated of the three valleys. Half-day jeep + walk.
Day 7 — Shandur Pass (optional) or return via Dir
Overnight Dir.
Day 8 — Return to Islamabad
