Overview
Taxila is one of the most important archaeological sites in all of Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located approximately 35 km northwest of Islamabad in Punjab, Pakistan. Flourishing from the 6th century BCE through to the 5th century CE, Taxila was successively part of the Persian Achaemenid Empire, the Macedonian Empire of Alexander the Great, the Mauryan Empire, the Indo-Greek kingdoms, and the Kushan Empire. It was one of the ancient world's greatest centres of Buddhist learning, trade, and philosophy.

Morning
Depart Islamabad after breakfast. Drive 45 min to Taxila. Begin at the Taxila Museum — superb collection of Gandharan sculptures, coins, and artefacts. Visit Bhir Mound — the oldest settlement (6th–2nd century BCE).
Midday
Visit Sirkap — Indo-Greek/Parthian city with grid-planned streets, stupas, and the iconic Double-Headed Eagle Stupa. Lunch at local restaurant near the museum.
Afternoon
Drive to Jaulian Monastery — the finest Buddhist monastery complex in Pakistan with beautifully preserved stucco figures. Visit Dharmarajika Stupa. Return to Islamabad by evening.
