Overview

Sarfaranga Cold Desert is one of the most surreal and unique natural landscapes in Pakistan — a vast expanse of sandy dunes and flat desert terrain sitting at approximately 2,226 metres altitude, surrounded on all sides by towering snow-capped peaks of the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges. Located just 30 km from Skardu city on the banks of the Indus River, Sarfaranga is part of the broader Katpana Desert and is often described as the world's second highest cold desert.
