Overview
Manthoka Waterfall is one of the tallest and most powerful waterfalls in Gilgit-Baltistan, located near Kharmang town in Skardu District, approximately 90 km from Skardu city. Fed by glacial meltwater and mountain springs, the waterfall plunges dramatically over 100 metres in multiple cascading tiers, sending up a constant cool mist that nourishes lush green vegetation around its base — a stark and beautiful contrast to the surrounding rocky desert landscape.
Combined Day Trip: Skardu – Manthoka – Khapalu
Morning
Depart Skardu, drive along the Shyok River gorge road.
Midday
Arrive Manthoka Waterfall area. Park and walk to the falls. Spend 1–2 hours exploring, picnicking, and photographing.
Afternoon
Continue drive to Khapalu (40 min further). Visit Khapalu Fort.
Evening
Overnight in Khapalu or return to Skardu.
